Luton deputy council leader announces plans to step down from role
Cllr Sian Timoney was first appointed as deputy leader in 2012 and will have held the role for nine years when she steps down this May.
Today, Cllr Timoney tweeted: "I have today notified the leader of Luton Council of my intention to stand down as deputy leader at our annual general meeting (AGM) in May.

"It has been a privilege to lead our town."
Cllr Timoney has served continuously on the council since 2003, and was previously chair of the Bedfordshire and Luton Combined Fire Authority, as well as portfolio holder for housing and social services.
She has also been a vocal supporter of 2020 Developments' plans for a new stadium at Power Court, and has regularly commented on issues affecting Luton to the media.
Last December, she ran for the Labour nomination for Bedfordshire Police and Crime Commissioner and emerged as runner-up to Dr David Michael.
Cllr Timoney states she will continue to represent Farley ward on the council until the next election.
